Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about Top Tech Choices, our recommendations, and how to use our site.
General
What is Top Tech Choices?
We help you find the best tech products without the research headache. Our system tracks over 40,000 products across laptops, cameras, tablets, and lenses — scoring each one on performance, value, and quality so you don't have to read 15 conflicting reviews.
How do you select which products to recommend?
Every product gets scored by our automated system using the same criteria: performance, value for money, build quality, and category-specific factors. The top scorers become our recommendations. No hand-picking, no favorites — the algorithm decides.
Are your reviews and recommendations unbiased?
Yes. We earn money through affiliate links (commissions when you buy through our links), but that never affects rankings. Our scoring system doesn't know or care which products pay us more. We regularly recommend products with zero affiliate payout because they're the best option. See our affiliate disclosure for details.
How often do you update your recommendations?
Continuously. Our systems monitor new product releases, price changes, and availability in real time. When something changes — a new model drops, a price shifts significantly — our recommendations update automatically. You're not looking at a list someone wrote six months ago.
Product Recommendations
How do I find the best laptop for my needs?
Head to our laptop section and pick your use case — gaming, student, business, creative work, etc. Each category page shows top picks with explanations of why they scored well. You can also narrow by price range to stay within budget.
What's the difference between your price categories?
We break recommendations into price ranges (under $500, $500-$1000, $1000-$2000, $2000+) because the best $500 laptop and the best $2000 laptop are very different products. Each range gets its own top picks optimized for what's realistic at that budget.
Do you only recommend new products?
Mostly, yes — we focus on products you can actually go buy right now. Occasionally a previous-generation model sticks around because it's still a great value. When that happens, we make it clear.
Why don't I see [specific brand/model] in your recommendations?
It might not score well enough compared to alternatives in its category and price range, it could have known reliability issues, or it might be discontinued. With 40,000+ products in our database, the bar for making it into our top picks is high — and that's the point.
Shopping & Purchases
How do I purchase products you recommend?
Every recommendation includes links to retailers where you can buy it — Amazon, Best Buy, B&H Photo, manufacturer sites, etc. Click the link, and you're taken straight to the product page. We don't sell anything directly.
Do you sell products directly?
Nope. We're a recommendation site, not a store. We point you to the best products and where to buy them — the actual purchase, shipping, and support all happen through the retailer. We have no involvement in any of that.
What if the price has changed since your recommendation?
Prices move constantly, especially around sales events. We do our best to keep pricing current, but always check the retailer's site before buying. Our recommendation is about the product being good, not about a specific price — though we factor value into our scoring.
Do you track or guarantee the lowest prices?
We don't guarantee lowest prices — that's not really what we do. We factor value into our scoring (a great product at a terrible price won't rank well), but for deal-hunting, price tracking tools or waiting for Black Friday / Prime Day is your best bet.
Technical Support
I bought a product you recommended and have an issue. Can you help?
We can't help with product support directly — you'll need to contact the retailer or manufacturer for returns, warranties, or technical issues. That said, if a product we recommended let you down, we'd genuinely like to hear about it through our contact form. It helps us improve.
How do I compare products on your site?
Right now, products are shown in ranked order within each category and price range, with key specs and our reasoning for each pick. We're working on adding side-by-side comparison features — it's on the list.
The website isn't working properly. What should I do?
Try refreshing the page or clearing your browser cache first. If it's still broken, please let us know through our contact form — include what browser you're using and what went wrong. We're a small team but we fix things fast.
Privacy & Data
What data do you collect about me?
Very little. We use anonymous analytics (only with your consent) to understand how people use the site, and we store whatever you voluntarily send through our contact form. That's it. No tracking pixels, no creepy stuff. Full details in our Privacy Policy.
Do you use cookies?
A few. Essential cookies remember your preferences (like dark mode). Analytics cookies are optional and only enabled with your consent. You can manage all of this anytime through the cookie settings link in our footer. See our Cookie Policy for the full breakdown.
Do you sell my personal information?
No. We don't sell, share, or do anything sketchy with your data. If you're in California, you have additional rights under CCPA — details are in our Privacy Policy.
Affiliate Disclosure
How do you make money?
Affiliate links. When you click a product link on our site and buy from a retailer, we get a small commission. It costs you nothing extra — the price is the same either way. That's what keeps the site running and the recommendations free.
Does affiliate income influence your recommendations?
No. Products are ranked by our automated scoring system, not by how much commission they pay. We frequently recommend products that pay us nothing because they're genuinely the best pick. The moment we start gaming rankings for commissions, nobody has a reason to trust us — and trust is literally all we have.
Which affiliate programs do you participate in?
Amazon Associates, Best Buy, B&H Photo, and manufacturer programs through Impact (like Lenovo). The specific program doesn't matter for rankings — we link to whichever reputable retailer has the product available. Full details on our affiliate disclosure page.
