Sirui Sniper 16mm APS-C Autofocus

The Sirui Sniper 16mm f/1.2 brings gorgeous bokeh, killer macro, and solid autofocus to Fuji X at a bargain price. Optical quality isn't class-leading, but for around $320, it's a stellar value.

Sirui's Sniper lineup keeps expanding, and this 16mm f/1.2 for Fuji X is the wide-angle addition people have been waiting for. It's compact, lightweight at 386g, and built around a seriously bright aperture that excels in low light. The carbon fiber body feels sturdy in hand, and the STM autofocus is both fast and quiet, making it a strong pick for video shooters. You get a lot for your money here, especially when you consider the macro performance that ranks near the top of our database. But it's not flawless. There's no weather sealing, so it won't love a rainy day. It also lacks an aperture ring, a design choice that'll irk Fuji purists who like clicking through stops. Our optical benchmarks are surprisingly low compared to what owners claim, which hints at some edge softness or distortion that doesn't show up in user reviews. Still, for the price, it's hard not to be curious.

The f/1.2 aperture is the obvious headliner, delivering creamy bokeh and impressive light gathering that makes shooting after dark a breeze. If you want a fast wide prime on a budget, this is one of the easiest recommendations out there.

The Viltrox Air 15mm f/1.7 is the most direct rival, and it's more compact if portability is your top priority. But the Sirui pulls ahead on macro performance and that extra bit of light. The Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 gives you zoom versatility and OIS, but at the cost of that dreamy f/1.2 background separation. If you need weather sealing or an aperture ring, Fuji's own XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR is the obvious premium pick, though it's multiple times the price. The Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 is another wide option, but again, you give up a full stop of light.

Skip this lens if you need a rugged, weather-sealed option for landscapes or all-weather shooting. Fuji shooters who can't live without a manual aperture ring will be frustrated, and if absolute portability is the goal, the smaller Viltrox Air 15mm might be a better fit.

Fuji X shooters who want a fast, wide, and affordable prime for environmental portraits, street work, or video will find a lot to love. It's also a sneaky good macro lens. Just don't expect it to replace a weather-sealed landscape lens, and be ready for a slightly different handling experience without that aperture ring.
