Alienware Aurora ACT1250 Black 2025

It's a gaming beast with ports for days, but reliability is a coin flip. Grab it cheap from Newegg or walk away.

The Alienware Aurora ACT1250 is a gaming desktop that looks like a killer deal on paper. Intel Core Ultra 7 265F, RTX 5070, 32GB of DDR5, and a port selection that's basically best-in-class. But there's a catch, and it's a big one: reliability scores are alarmingly low. You're rolling the dice on whether you'll get a flawless machine or a headache right out of the box.

I expected solid frame rates from that RTX 5070, but I was genuinely surprised by how well this thing handles creative workloads. Our database puts the CPU at a strong 87th percentile and the GPU well above average, so rendering and multitasking feel snappy. The 1TB SSD is just okay, middle of the pack territory, and this rig is heavy at over 15kg. Port selection, though, is absurdly good, Thunderbolt, USB-C, and Wi-Fi 7 mean you'll never hunt for a dongle.

Pricing is all over the map, from $1,837 at Newegg to some listings hitting an eye-watering $554,411. At the low end, you're getting a ton of hardware for the money. Just ignore the crazy scalper prices and snag it from Newegg if you want a fair deal.

The HP OMEN 45L delivers similar specs but with much better reliability scores and a tool-less chassis. Lenovo's Legion Tower 5i Gen 10 is another safer bet, trading some port variety for a sturdier track record. Dell's own XPS EBT2250 is more compact if space is tight. The Aurora wins on connectivity and flash, but those reliability woes make me hesitate.

If you're looking for a rock-solid system that won't give you out-of-box headaches, this isn't it. Go grab an HP OMEN 45L or Lenovo Legion Tower instead, and enjoy better reliability.

If you're okay with a potential return, the Aurora ACT1250 is a performance beast with ports for days. I'd only recommend it at the Newegg price and only from a retailer with a no-hassle return policy. For peace of mind, the HP OMEN 45L is the smarter buy.
